Meaning
Financial Inclusion = Providing banking services at affordable cost to poor, low-income and disadvantaged groups.
Main Goal
- Banking is a public good, so everyone must have access to banking without discrimination.
Why FI?
- Since 2005, banks + RBI + Govt tried many efforts.
- Later Govt launched Sampoorna Vitteeya Samaveshan (SVS) → Finally became PMJDY Mission (National Mission for Financial Inclusion).
CHAPTER 2 – Financial Inclusion Products
1. BSBD Account (Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account)
Balance Rules
- No minimum balance
- No maximum limit on deposits
Free Facilities
- Cash deposit in Branch/ATM/CDM
- No limit on deposits
- 4 withdrawals per month (ATM included)
- Free ATM/Debit card

Important Rule
- BSBD holder cannot open any other SB account in the same/other bank.
2. PMJDY Account
(Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana)
Key Features
- Launched: 14 August 2014
- Zero-balance BSBD account
- For any individual (single/joint)
- NRIs & non-individuals not allowed
- Must close any existing SB account within 30 days
- Opening allowed in Branch or BC point
- Aadhaar biometric allowed at BCs
